Pomegranate Molasses
Pomegranate molasses is a dark, tart, and syrupy liquid extracted from pomegranate juice through a prolonged boiling process that concentrates its natural sugars and flavors. This process is carried out by simmering the juice down to a thick sauce, left with a concentrated, almost black appearance and a tannic edge.
Pomegranate molasses has a unique blend of sweet, sour, and bitter notes that sets it apart from other sweeteners; and its bright fruity flavor works well as a condiment to enrich the taste of various dishes. The condiment is a common ingredient in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine used to add a tangy and fruity touch to savory dishes like stews, gravies, marinades, and dips, and also as a garnish to salads, desserts, and drinks.
Pomegranate molasses is a versatile kitchen ingredient with a beautiful balance of flavors and strongly recommended for use in cooking and adding that extra zing to one’s palette.
